Some Stuff You Didn’t Know About Lettuce

Good Morning!

The plan is starting to come together! I was up at 5:30 and out of bed by 6.  I made coffee and even did some cardio.  Wrote some stuff down in my journal about yesterday, some thoughts about yesterday and how today was going to be an awesome day.

This morning I sat down to write today’s blog with no specific topic in mind other than writing other than getting some thoughts down paper, so to speak, but what I was writing down was a bit more personal and it ended up being my journal entry for today instead.

I cruised through my social media feed and a few things provoked some creative thoughts. First was a post about the brown spots on lettuce and the other about the MLM marketing business model.

Here is what I wrote about the brown spots on lettuce.

I read somewhere in the past that the brown spots are generally considered safe.  They’re referred to as russet spotting.  From the following articles, this tends to occur in lettuce because of exposure to low concentrations of a gas called ethylene.

Ethylene is used during food transportation to ripen fruit and veggies. I surmise that what happened with your lettuce was that it was transported in the same container/trailer as other fruit or was transported in the same container or in a trailer that had been used previously and was exposed to that gas in trace amounts.

Brown spots on lettuce like in your picture doesn’t mean actually the lettuce is gone bad, but is considered ‘fully ripe’; mind you it’s not a plateable as non-spotty lettuce.  I eat lettuce like this quite frequently because I tend to buy it and not eat it for a week or like 3. However, I don’t eat lettuce that’s fully brown and slimy, that’s just nasty. Food is much to expensive to just throw out if its not actually bad.

Here are the two articles I read.

The post I saw this morning regarding the MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) business model was a troll making fun of someone doing a live stream promoting their products.  I’m not going to call anyone out on anything because people are fully entitled to voice their opinion and how they think about things.

But seriously, if someone you know is trying something new to make some money, especially by demonstrating the value of what their selling, then why steal their thunder? Not cool. You’re like the heckler at a comedy show. And moreover, why would you do that to someone so publicly you consider a friend?

MLM is a shitty and kinda scammy business model. I fully dislike the entire idea about it; it’s incentive-based sales-team-building structure is the wrong way to get people to want to sell more of your products.

If the product is actually awesome and it sells itself and there is no other decent product that compares to it in your own experience? Well, I guess dancing with the devil isn’t so bad. As a consumer, all you need to do is buy the product.

Thanks for reading!

P.S. Tonight I will be streaming live on twitch under my gamertag Karsypants, and tonight’s show will hopefully be the first of many shows with a guest.  We’re going to play some video games, have a few beers and a few laughs, and no doubt it should be both interesting and entertaining. Expect some talk about food, drinks, gaming (of course), cars, wrenching on stuff, and probably a bunch of other things too.  Grab some popcorn and tune in at 7 ET.

Spread the love
